How your support helps

Sometimes, there's only one moment in a person's life when they muster the courage to pick up the phone and seek help.

Each day, we receive more than 70 calls from people seeking alcohol and drug rehabilitation and support. Our dedicated team is committed to answering them all.

But more than that, they want the time to answer each call with compassion and gentleness.

We know how difficult it is to make that call and we want to have the time to listen and give our best self to each client.

An unanswered or hurried call— could be an opportunity lost forever. It’s a missed opportunity, a lost chance to reclaim a life.

Join us in supporting Odyssey and help more families like Josh's find hope and healing.

Together, we can make a difference.

At 44, Josh* was a high performing executive, with a successful marriage and a teenaged son who looked up to him.

He drove an expensive car, lived in a comfortable home. To the outside world Josh’s life seemed picture perfect.

Behind the scenes, work was demanding and stressful and heavy drinking had become normalised. Drinking excessively at work functions and events, and there were many, was seen as just part of the job, even necessary to get ahead.

Over time, Josh’s excessive alcohol use led to the development of dependence on alcohol. It started having adverse social, work and health consequences.

Work started to suffer, his family relationships became strained, he developed anxiety and the life Josh had worked hard to build was under threat.

The good news is that Josh recognised how severe the problem had become and picked up the phone. One of the team at Odyssey was there to answer his call.

Then we were there to deliver support out of our Odyssey community hubs. Josh accessed evidence-based treatments, including counselling and behavioural therapies.

He learned to identify his triggers and developed problem-solving techniques, including planning around work social events, assertive communication and avoidance strategies.

Today, Josh is a role model to his son.

Josh’s newfound clarity has allowed him to handle work stress with greater ease and gain insight into his past behaviours.

Most importantly Josh has improved his relationship with his family and become a father his son can truly admire and respect.

With your help, we can continue to be on the other end of the phone, providing life-changing care to people like Josh.
